Creative Magazine Cover

Tools Used: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi, Photoshop CS3

This design was for a graphic design class I took a few months ago. I was in a huge time crunch and couldn’t think of a good design that fast, which is why the look ended up being heavily inspired by RELEVANT Magazine.

A lot of mainstream magazines out there have heavy text on the cover, and while some know how to pull it off real good and make it work with the layout, most just look cluttered and sometimes out of place. I’ve always liked magazine covers that focused more on the cover image than the headliners, and I especially think it’s appropriate for all art related magazines to do that, so that’s what I did with my cover. The cover photo is from a trip I took to SF MOMA around April. Colorwise, the image is really minimal, so I decided not to use too many colors for the text and only went with yellow and white so it wouldn’t overpower the cover image. Overall, the final cover design came out really minimalistic, but still affective and pleasing.
